iPhone 17 Launch: 70% of US iPhone Users Plan to Upgrade Ahead of Apple’s September 9 Event

Apple is all set to unveil its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series on September 9, 2025, at its autumn keynote event titled “Awe Dropping.” A recent survey has revealed overwhelming interest in the lineup, with nearly 70% of US iPhone users planning to upgrade — a higher rate than before the iPhone 16 launch.

Survey Reveals Huge Upgrade Demand

According to research by SellCell, which surveyed more than 2,000 iPhone users in August, 68.3% of participants confirmed plans to switch to the new iPhone 17 series. Among models, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are set to draw the most attention, accounting for 38.1% of intended purchases. The standard iPhone 17 will attract 16.7%, while 13.5% of users are eyeing the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Interestingly, only 3.3% expressed preference for a foldable iPhone, which Apple has not yet launched.

Why Users Want to Upgrade

Battery life was cited as the top reason for upgrading, mentioned by 53% of respondents. Other factors included:

  • New design and features (36.2%)
  • Advanced display technology (34.3%)
  • Camera improvements (28.1%)
Meanwhile, Apple’s AI features were considered essential by just over 7% of participants.

Challenges: Price & Competition

Despite the excitement, pricing remains the biggest obstacle. Nearly 69% said cost was the main barrier to upgrading, while 71% expressed satisfaction with their current devices. Additional concerns included:

  • Interest in foldable phones (7.5%)
  • Reluctance to adopt eSIM-only models (6.6%)
  • Switching to Android alternatives (5.3%)

Competition is also heating up. If Apple fails to launch a foldable by 2026, 20% of users may switch to Samsung and around 10% to Google.

Brand Loyalty Still Strong

Even with pricing and rival competition, brand loyalty to Apple remains high, with nearly 70% of iPhone users stating they will continue with the brand regardless of alternatives.

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to come with major upgrades in design, performance, battery, and AI features, making it one of Apple’s most significant launches in recent years. All eyes are now on September 9, when Apple officially reveals its next-generation devices
