IFA 2025: Qi 2 and Qi 2.2 Wireless Charging Go Mainstream

At IFA 2025 in Berlin, the spotlight was on wireless charging innovations as brands unveiled solutions supporting the latest Qi 2 and Qi 2.2 standards. With faster charging speeds and improved magnetic alignment, Qi 2.2 devices promise to make tangled wires a thing of the past.

Google Pixel and the Qi 2.2 Standard

Ahead of IFA, Google introduced its Pixel 10 Pro XL featuring support for Qi 2 and Qi 2.2 wireless charging, competing directly with Apple’s MagSafe system. This enables up to 25W of wireless charging with stronger magnetic alignment, keeping devices stable on charging pads.

Belkin’s UltraCharge Magnetic Charger

Belkin showcased its UltraCharge Magnetic Charger 25W, fully Qi 2.2 certified, capable of delivering maximum charging speeds for compatible devices like the Pixel 10 Pro XL. The puck features a built-in kickstand, passive cooling technology called “ChillBoost,” and comes with a 2-meter cable. Priced similar to Google’s own Pixelsnap charger, it will be available starting October 2025. Belkin also revealed a 75W car charger with a retractable USB-C cable for fast on-the-go charging.

Qi 2.2: What You Need to Know

Qi 2.2 upgrades the older Qi 2.0 standard, which was capped at 15W, to 25W wireless charging. It improves magnetic alignment to prevent phones from slipping and works seamlessly with devices supporting the standard.

With Google and accessory makers like Belkin leading the charge, Qi 2.2 is poised to become the new benchmark for fast and convenient wireless charging, soon arriving on e-commerce platforms worldwide.
