Tecno Pova Slim 5G: Making Ultra-Thin Smartphones Mainstream

Tecno Mobiles India is embracing the growing demand for thin smartphones with the launch of the Pova Slim 5G, measuring just 5.95mm thick and weighing 156 grams. While slimness was rarely marketed as a key feature in the past, Tecno aims to make lightweight devices mainstream and accessible to Indian consumers.

Industry Context

Other brands such as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, and Oppo are also exploring ultra-slim phones. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge highlight the trend but come with higher price tags. With smartphone designs increasingly looking similar, manufacturers are now seeking unique ways to stand out without compromising essential features like battery life, camera quality, or performance.

CEO Insights

Arijeet Talapatra, CEO of Tecno Mobiles India, explains the motivation behind launching the Pova Slim 5G: “If you pick up most smartphones, they look almost the same. Everyone talks about cameras, RAM, and displays, but few focus on design identity. We wanted to create a phone that stands out—remarkably slim, yet practical.”

Consumer Perspective

Talapatra notes that consumers increasingly prefer lighter devices over bulky phones with massive batteries. “Foldable devices didn’t take off as expected. Users mainly use the primary screen 80% of the time. Carrying a heavier device doesn’t make sense when most of the use is on the main display,” he says.

Conclusion

With the Pova Slim 5G, Tecno is betting on a shift in consumer preference toward lightweight, stylish, and functional smartphones. By combining slim design with 5G connectivity, Tecno aims to make ultra-thin phones a viable and attractive option in India’s competitive smartphone market.
