Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17 series on September 9, 2025, and while the new lineup may look similar to the iPhone 16 at first glance, it is expected to feature several under-the-hood upgrades. From a larger display to a new chipset and redesigned iOS, here’s a detailed look at how the iPhone 17 could compare to the iPhone 16.
Design and Display
At first sight, the iPhone 17 might resemble the iPhone 16, but subtle changes are coming. The screen size is expected to increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. For the first time, the base iPhone model may also support ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate.
Apple could use Samsung’s M14 OLED panel, which promises higher brightness, better efficiency, and improved durability. There are also rumours of an Always-On Display feature for the base iPhone 17, though it isn’t confirmed yet.
Performance
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 is tipped to feature the A19 chipset, built on TSMC’s 3nm process. While early leaks suggested a 2nm node, the 3nm version is still expected to deliver better performance and AI-focused efficiency.
Speculations also suggest that the iPhone 17 could ship with 12GB of RAM, making it a more powerful multitasking device compared to the iPhone 16.
iOS 26 with Liquid Glass
