OnePlus has officially confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus 15 series will not feature the Hasselblad camera branding. The partnership, which began in 2021 with the OnePlus 9 series, was aimed at boosting the photography experience through Hasselblad’s expertise in filters and color calibration. However, less than five years later, the collaboration has come to an end.
Introduction of OnePlus Imaging System
Instead of Hasselblad, the OnePlus 15 will debut with the company’s own imaging system called DetailMax. According to OnePlus, this new in-house camera engine has been developed to enhance clarity, color accuracy, and low-light performance. It represents the company’s effort to build a unique camera identity independent of third-party collaborations.
Pete Lau’s Statement
In a community post, Pete Lau, OnePlus co-founder, acknowledged the contributions Hasselblad made to OnePlus devices over the years. He highlighted how the partnership helped elevate OnePlus cameras with features like improved filters, better tone mapping, and enhanced color tuning. However, Lau emphasized that it was time for OnePlus to rely on its own innovations to push camera technology forward.
What to Expect from OnePlus 15
The OnePlus 15 is expected to feature a flagship-level camera system powered by DetailMax, alongside performance upgrades in design, processor, and battery life. With this shift, OnePlus aims to deliver distinct photography experiences while also competing directly with other premium smartphone makers that rely on proprietary imaging systems.
