After a series of teasers, Nothing has officially announced Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16. The new update focuses on a cleaner, more functional user experience while keeping the signature Nothing design language intact. A redesigned lock screen and a refined visual interface are part of the enhancements aimed at simplicity and usability.
Redesigned Quick Settings and Dark Mode
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces an updated Quick Settings toggle, featuring less clutter and wider format tiles for frequently used items. The dark mode has also been enhanced, offering higher contrast for a sleeker look. Additionally, the screen brightness slider has been made more responsive, and new Always-on Display (AOD) options provide users with better customization.
Multitasking and App Optimization
The update supports two floating app icons, enabling faster multitasking and smooth switching between apps. App launches have been optimized for responsiveness, ensuring a smoother overall experience. The camera app interface has been updated, and the gallery app now comes with additional controls, presets, and a more intuitive layout. A new dashboard is also included to track AI usage.
Release and Device Support
The open beta for Nothing OS 4.0 will be rolled out soon, starting with the Nothing Phone (3), followed by older Nothing and CMF devices. However, the Phone (1) will not receive the update, as it has reached the end of its software support lifecycle.
Nothing OS 4.0 promises a visually refreshed, more responsive, and feature-rich experience, continuing Nothing’s focus on minimalistic and user-friendly smartphone software.
